Feature
Despite two hit sitcoms and a bestselling book, Fran Drescher is most proud of her unofficial spokeswoman for gynecological cancers after she recently overcame uterine cancer.

After enduring the horrific ordeal of sexual assault, and more recently a close call with potentially fatal gynecologic cancer, Fran has honed her own unique brand of survival skills. And she has advice for women everywhere. Apparently, it’s all about living life backwards.

My Turn
Julie Rosenbaum-Engelhardt is in a “New York state of mind” as she travels through the mid-west to visit family.

Driving down Interstate 64 from Indiana to Illinois to visit my husband’s family, all at once I see Sunrise Highway in my mind’s eye. I keep wondering why I let my ex-husband take a job in America’s Heartland, a place where I never really belonged. Where they call bags “sacks,” soda “Cokes” (no matter what the brand), where people “warsh” their clothes and eat brain sandwiches. Where people make dinner reservations for no later than 6 p.m. and go to bed after the 10 o’clock news. Instead of wearing sneakers, they call everything “tennis shoes,” whether it’s for basketball, softball, running and yes, even playing tennis.
