He socialized with King Farouk and other aristocrats, but he was also a devout Jew who went to synagogue every day and piously observed the Sabbath. “It was as if two people resided within one sharkskin suit,” writes the author.

Since researchers had not been studying whether disease affected women differently and whether medication and other treatments had different efficacy for women, little was actually known about how different women and men are in this context.
