Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist J.R. Moehringer recounts growing up in Publican’s bar in Manhasset in his new memoir, The Tender Bar.
There’s a restaurant and bar in Manhasset called Edison’s. Within the last few months, a sign went up in the front window that reads, “Do you know where the old Publican’s used to be?” As a longtime Manhasset resident, I know that the restaurant used to be called Publican’s, but the wording of the sign seemed strange until I read The Tender Bar, a beautifully written account of one boy’s coming-of-age under achingly difficult circumstances.

Profile
Darla Shine went from a career woman, to a miserable stay-at-home mom, to a not-so-desperate housewife. In her new book, Happy Housewives, she shares what caused the changes, why others should follow suit and how to do so.
