March 2007

Feature
An in-depth interview with Lesley Stahl, one of television’s most well-known and distinguished journalists, and correspondent on 60 Minutes.

“The changes for women [in TV news] have been enormous. When I started in the field, there were a couple of women at each network, and that was because of affirmative action. For the most part, women covered the ‘soft’ stories. At the time, health and education were considered ‘soft,’ although that is no longer true.

Book Corner
Debbi Honorof takes a look at Susan Isaacs’, Long Island author, new book, Past Perfect..

The cast of characters we encounter on the way are classic Isaacs: a psychotherapist mother, a suicidal younger sister, a stream of colorful CIA associates and some ex-communists with new American identities. But none are as archetypal as Katie herself: a clever, smart-talking New Yorker with an impressive talent for observation.

Home
Everything you need to know to keep houseplants—alive.

More plants die from overwatering than from any other single cause. Before you give up on these healthy and attractive additions to your home, familiarize yourself with some tips from the experts. Too much water, not enough light, fungus, too much food – all can cancel your best intentions.

My Turn
Susan Spitzer shares her experiences with memory lapses, or “senior moments”, in this light-hearted column.

Even my dog is getting forgetful these days. She goes outside, goes to the bathroom and comes back in. Fifteen minutes later, she acts as if she doesn’t remember going out and wants to go out again. When I let her out the second time, she runs out and looks back at me as if to say, “Why am I out here?” At least she has an excuse; she’s 91 in dog years.
