Melissa defines their status as “happily single. Anyone who says they’re not looking isn’t being a hundred percent honest, because everybody hopes they’ll find someone to connect with. I have 50/50 custody, so I try to organize my entire life around his schedule.
Health
Wine and weight loss … turns out they are not compatible. Learn why alcohol is so detrimental to your diet, and get some practical tips you can use to minimize the damage.
The main problem with alcohol is not the number of calories it contains, but rather the effect it has on fat metabolism … Even drinking in moderation can slow your body’s ability to break down food … If protein, carbohydrates and/or fat are consumed at the same time as alcohol, your body will burn the alcohol calories before turning to food calories as a source of energy. This leads to an increased fat storage.

Book Corner
If you are familiar with Sally Wendkos Olds, you might have “grown up” with her. The author has written 11 books and more than 200 articles, spanning topics from breastfeeding to grandparenting. The one consistency? Her sage advice. Columnist Debbi Honorof introduces us to this remarkable woman.
An excerpt from Super Granny (Sterling, 2009), by Sally Wendkos Olds:

We know how fast children grow up

My Turn
A Mother’s Day tribute that reconsiders the meaning of “enabler.”
Lest anyone jump to the conclusion that all acts of enabling render a negative connotation, take heed of the following synonyms. To enable is to make able, empower, qualify, capacitate, make possible for, allow, permit, aid, assist, support, facilitate and benefit. How truly complimentary, then, for me to bestow upon my mom the title of “expert enabler.”
