Health
This article discusses the price women pay—and we’re not talking dollars and cents here--for wearing the latest in shoe trends. Interviews with a podiatrist, shoe department manager and a look at the most recent studies talk about the damage shoes can pose not just to the feet.

For many women, a high-heeled shoe can make an outfit sing. Sadly, while your clothes are happy to be paired up with those “oh-so-perfect pumps,” your feet often hum a painfully different tune. Too often, shoes can make your feet ache. While you may already know that you’ll pay the price of developing a few blisters or discomfort as a result of spending a day in a pair of shoes, do you know that your shoes could also be causing long-term damage?

Home
In home decorating circles, mirrors aren’t just used to take a look at your outfit or to tell you that you’re the fairest of them all. These days, mirrors can be used to brighten, spruce up and “expand” rooms in your home. Here are economical and tasteful tips on decorating with mirrors to suit any décor.

Today, every family is looking for economical ways to work magic with the home they have. And nothing works magic quite the way mirrors do. Panels of mirror, placed strategically, can more than double the perceived space of a room and give the illusion of openness.

Giving Back
Dr. Andrew Jacono, a plastic surgeon in Great Neck, gives back to the community by performing pro bono procedures on women who have been disfigured during a domestic violence dispute and are unable to afford surgery. The article also talks about the national program, “Face to Face,” through which Dr. Jacono performs the surgeries.

Plastic surgery is expensive, and for many women who leave their abusive spouses, just having enough money to feed their children can be overwhelming. So the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) sponsors a humanitarian and surgical exchange program called “Face to Face,” which links physicians specializing in the field with domestic violence victims who require surgery but are unable to afford it. Dr. Jacono, the only physician on Long Island who participates, says, “As much as I enjoy doing cosmetic surgery, I get no greater gratification than when I see a woman who has been disfigured by domestic violence look into a mirror for the first time and see that the scars of the past have been removed and she can get on with her new life.”
