Feature
Maybe you remember her from Maude. Maybe you are a devotee of her horror flicks. Maybe you caught her on Broadway in Grease. However you are familiar with Adrienne Barbeau, you know that she defies categorization. Now, she has written a whodunit novel, Vampyres of Hollywood, and Long Island Woman got to speak with Barbeau about the book and her multifaceted career.

When I first moved to New York, I wanted to work on Broadway. I needed my days free, so that I could audition, so I took a job in a midtown bar … the owner decided to have the girls get up on stage and dance to the jukebox. Later, I got a job down in the Village. By that time, we were dancing in cages. There was also a place on Long Island in Port Washington, where I used to dance on top of a piano. Up until the time that I did Maude, I was just a young girl trying to start her career and perfect my craft.

Health
Learn all about cosmetic dentistry procedures, the latest trends and questions you should ask your doctor when considering treatment. Whatever procedure you might be thinking about, from teeth whitening to dental implants or veneers, you will find important information in this article.

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person’s teeth, mouth and smile, while traditional dentistry focuses on oral hygiene and disease. Cosmetic procedures can improve imperfections caused by genetics, environmental factors, injury, neglect or age. There are emotional benefits as well. Patients often leave the dentist’s chair with heightened self-confidence.

Sustenance
Happy Thanksgiving! This is a wonderful time of year, but it can also be stressful if you are hosting the family feast. Have no fear; Long Island Woman is here with “10 Thanksgiving Problems Solved”! Everything from pre-planning to post-clean up tips is at your fingertips. Be sure to pick up an issue and enjoy the holiday this time around, even if you are the hostess!

When you have more side dishes than burners, you have a problem. This is solved by planning in advance. Make a list of crowd pleasers, evaluate the number of burners and oven space available. Cook ahead. Many side dishes that require oven space (think stuffing and casseroles) can be cooked at whatever temperature the turkey requires, not just the one specified in the recipe. Adjust the timing accordingly.

Book Corner
To many, Thanksgiving signals the start of the holiday season. Columnist Debbi Honorof helps you out with some gift-giving tips, offering choices for every reader on your list.

Here’s a book that everyone should read: The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. The incredibly gifted thinker and award-winning New York Times columnist explains today’s complex and interlinked global economy (I listened to this book on CD, which I highly recommend).

Ladies at Lunch

This month, reviewers visited The Melting Pot in Farmingdale and MoCA Asian Bistro in Hewlett. (Sign up to do a review at liwomanonline.com/lunch.html)
